Since we’re still relatively new to Salt Lake City, and the whole word-of-mouth thing is taking a little longer to kick in than I had hoped, and my SEO efforts will take a lot more time to pay off…. I need more business! The funny thing is I’ve booked THREE weddings in the New England/New York area this year (woo!), and none right here in Salt Lake. So, we can either pick up and move to Boston (not a bad option)…. OR I need to get more creative with my marketing efforts. So I’ve decided to do the old-fashioned flyer method, and I spent all afternoon today drafting up one. My plan is to hit all the places where my target clients will be going on a regular basis. The kind of clients I want are ones who have coffee at Coffee Garden in 9th & 9th, who shop at Frosty Darling, who see indie movies at the Broadway Theater, who buy books at Sam Weller’s. So Jamie and I are gonna hit the pavement soon and put up flyers wherever they’ll let us. I have to say, considering I have no experience in graphic design whatsoever, I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out. Thoughts?

Great idea morgs let me know if you want help, BTW moving to boston is a bad idea.
I think its great! I love that it says “Morgan Trinker wants to shoot you” as the first line! Its definitely attention grabbing, great job! :) Simple can be best and people appreciate good simple design, especially the folks you want to attract! If you need any help designing, just holla and I would more glad to help out to get you some more business shooting in Salt Lake! xo
Love, love, LOVE!
This is. Great, Morgan! I love the sample photos you chose–great variety and display of your versatility in just a handful of photos! I can’t believe you’ve booked THREE NY/New England weddings. Do you need a second shooter? I’ve never been to NY… And yes, I’m totally serious. :)
Looks fantastic!
Too bad they don’t have a “Groupon” in your area….several photographers in Nashville have used that direction of “get’n your name out there” through the internet. But have no fear….your work says it all…it’s only a matter of time. Love your fliers!!!
Morgan, I don’t think you need any formal graphic arts training! You are tremendously talented and original, and more training (unless it’s technical “how-to-work-the-programs” training, might actually change how you do things, and not necessarily for the better. There is that whole school of thought that in order to be really original and creative, you ignore art training in lieu of just doing things that look right to you. I totally get that, because I think it’s easy to inadvertently fall into the trap of, “that’s cool I’m going to do something like that” and suddenly your art is derivative. Your work is FABULOUS as it is, and I love visiting your site to see what new pics you will have posted and what you are up to in SLC. We miss you at Montvue, but I am so glad you have a blog so we can see how you’re doing!
Love,
Amy
(The flyer is AWESOME, by the way!)
