Nissa and Troy | Engaged

Last weekend I got to make a spontaneous trip to Denver, courtesy of the lovely Nissa and Troy, who flew me out to photograph an engagement session for them. Nissa is the best friend of Alaina, who is my friend Brandon’s sister. Follow? Good. Anyway, Alaina told Nissa about my work (thanks, p.s.!), and Nissa contacted me recently wondering if I’d be interested in doing a little traveling. And I said, a chance to visit Denver AND do an awesome shoot AND get to see some of my best friends and baby Jameson? Heck yeah! So despite coming down with a ridiculous cold the day before I was scheduled to fly out (why thank you, nasty Salt Lake City inversion air), I was pumped to get to see all my favorites. I was even MORE excited about all the ideas Nissa sent me for their shoot. I just love when clients are full of ideas to make their sessions super personal and stylish. Oh, and did I mention that this couple is insanely good-looking? I mean, Nissa was a Miss Colorado contestant. Need. I. Say. More. So you might think that with all this awesomeness going for them, they might be a little, oh, you know, stuck up or something. But NO. Don’t hate them for being beautiful. Because they are as nice and humble and down-to-earth as they come… and I’m fairly certain it’d be impossible to hate them for anything. So pretty much, they made my job easy peasy.

Also, I have to give a HUGE shout out to my friend Erin, who came with me to assist. She’s got mad posing and coaching skillz. And, you know, she’s a pretty swell friend on top of that. :)

We started our session at The Ginn Mill, a bar in downtown Denver owned by Troy. This place is so fantastic. Lots of old west and old Hollywood details. And great drink specials! I love when it works out that a location is both meaningful AND visually interesting. We had so much fun stuff to work with. As you can see….

Did I mention they were good-looking? ‘Cause, yeah…..

I don’t know if you noticed in the first image, but the whole back of the bar is covered in dollar bills that have been signed and decorated by the regulars. This was inspired by a bar Troy went to in Ireland, I think, where every square inch of the place was covered in bills. I love the idea, and luckily Troy and Nissa had already decorated a couple of them in honor of their upcoming wedding. (“Trissa” is a name combo. Nissa told me they have one for all their couple friends. Cute!)

Okay, I loved the Spanish painting set from Lane and Susan’s engagement session so much, I wanted to do something similar with the bathroom doors. Love how they turned out!

This is DEFINITELY one of my faves. If not my very fave.

Gotta love a shoe shot, no?

We headed to the Union train station next. I adored the dramatic light and shadows going on in there.

More Instax goodness!

Then to the park for some natural light…

So lovely. Wow.

I loved Troy’s goofy faces. He would make them, then shrug and say, “Hey, that’s the real me!” I appreciate you showing me the real you, Troy. :)

Aaaand I know you want a slideshow! Well, don’t ya? So CLICK HERE TO WATCH IT, and enjoy the Joshua Radin song “These Photographs.” Pretty appropriate, I thought. :)

Thanks again Nissa and Troy! I hope your Hawaiian wedding is amazing!

Morgan…….if these were MY pictures I would also be buying you a ticket to Hawaii for the “big day”. Not even knowing this couple you captured truly beautiful pictures and clearly two people in love. How do you narrow down a favorite????? If I was you I would have my suitcase ready just in case……I’m just say’n. You go girl! With love….

Hey MORGS,
Even though I am not nearly as good-looking, I would
love for you to take my picture posing with a guiness at
the Ginn Mill. That is one spectacular photograph!

When can you come to Dallas? When I looked at the slideshow, all I could do is say, “oh wow, oh wow, oh wow” Each pic. got better and better…you have the talent to capture 2 terrific “kids”, in a love relationship that shows with ea. picture. I’m soo pleased, so moved by the marksmanship of your photography, and by the fun I see it was with Troy and Nissa. I want one of each picture to decorate my walls! You truely captured the beauty in Nissa, and the humor in Troy (and his Texas homeboy dapperness) Oh wow…that’s my boy and the love of his life, thanks for showing it’s reality. Teri

Beautiful photos!! Most of these look like advertisements for a magazine layout (this opinion has nothing to do with my current obsession with Mad Men). Love you much, Mom
